Our Story From Lab to Field

Solar Guard began with a simple goal: help growers protect crops while making better use of one of farming’s most valuable resources — water. What started as an early calcium-based agricultural coating in 1998 has evolved into a patented technology focused on improving water use efficiency, reducing unnecessary water loss, and helping crops remain productive under stressful growing conditions.

Through years of research, field testing, and continuous refinement, Solar Guard developed into an advanced agricultural formulation designed to work directly at the leaf level. Extensive university research, greenhouse trials, and real-world field testing helped shape the product into a practical solution for modern agriculture.

One of the biggest advancements came through the development of Solar Guard’s patented SMART CAL++ technology. Using ultra-fine nano-calcium particles significantly smaller than traditional agricultural calcium products, Solar Guard forms an ultra-thin protective micro-layer on the leaf surface that helps crops use water more efficiently while supporting continued plant activity throughout the growing season.

Unlike traditional water-saving solutions that often require expensive infrastructure changes, Solar Guard works within the plant itself — requiring no irrigation redesign, construction, or new equipment. It is a simple foliar application designed to help growers get more value from the water they already use.

Over the years, Solar Guard has undergone multiple generations of improvements and has been validated through university studies, greenhouse testing, and field trials across orchards, vineyards, row crops, and specialty crops.

In 2025, Willamette Ag entered into a lease agreement to operate and expand Solar Guard, bringing decades of agricultural manufacturing and distribution experience to the product’s next chapter. Today, Willamette Ag oversees the manufacturing, sales, and continued development of Solar Guard under the leadership of Kurt Kayner and the Willamette Ag team.

Proudly made in the USA, Solar Guard represents the next generation of agricultural water efficiency technology — built through decades of research, testing, and innovation to help growers make every gallon work harder.
